This is the first in what should be a long line of posts about our new business - Mango Leadership Group.

I’ve been in business before but blogging will help me articulate the comings and goings, the highs and lows, the good and the bad of starting a new business. Many people I talk to would either love to start their own business or have done so and are finding it a minefield. These posts might be ‘therapy’ for them - as well as me!

To keep the peace I’ll remove actual names to protect the guilty but will endeavour to provide a candid view of our progress and we are doing to address issues and grow the business.

There will be much of the usual stuff (vision, mission, operations etc) but it’s also about the personalities and the growth we have in developing the business as a viable and profitable entity.

To kick it off, we’re working on our raison d’etre, our reason for existing in the first place. We’re a training and development business and as many will know there are plenty around. So why are we different? Good question. One thing we look at is that the products we deliver are considered world class - Brian Tracy International for one.

Brian is considered the #1 corporate trainer worldwide and it’s fantastic we can deliver his programs. And I guess that’s a key point in business - have products you believe in!

Where we’re up to …

Currently we’re in start up mode. Got the office, got the desk, got the PCs (no internet yet!), got the phones on. Operationally, not too bad.

We still have to finalise the Vision and Mission and that is an important part of the puzzle for all of us. Who are we and what do we really do? Hitting the streets with various messages won’t be good for us in the long run so we need to nut this out. I’ll letyou know how we get on.

Vision - Why It Is Important!

For us it’s crucial. We start off with a product like Brian Tracy and we start off with a world class product. That’s great - if we can deliver it in a world class fashion. and that forms part of the vision. We want to remain world class. So processes, guarantees, delivery and back up all need to be world class. It’s quite empowering really simply because it draws us towards a higher level of operating. We must discover for ourselves what world class means to us and then work out how we’re going to do that. It may not be anything earth shattering in itself - but the fact that we do it may be the point. (whatever it is!)

I like to think that most of our processes are in our business DNA - in other words it’s not something we do, it’s something we are! It’s like the difference between ‘managing a project’ and being a Project Manager!

Okay. Post over. Thoughts?
