3 - Productivity
Filed Under Achievement, Blogging, Success | 1 Comment
“3″ is a concept around getting things done quickly. They can be about anything (this one is on productivity) and the options are endless. The aim of “3″ for anyone is to get moving on “something, anything” as long as you get momentum.
Often, we are stuck simply because there are a myriad of things to do. But if we could just get something done:
- life would be better
- work would be more productive
- problems might be less of a hassle
- our immediate situation might be happier etc.
So, think in things of 3.
Productivity:
- write a list of 10 things to do
- pick 3 of them to start and finish now
- set a time limit - go
Once you’ve completed your 3 things:
- re-assess
- take a break
- start again on 3 more things
- make a coffee.
But you’ll probably feel some momentum and want to keep going.
Go ahead, try it … now!

Knowledge is Power (and Comforting)

Why is the current financial crisis like a roller coaster?
Because it has just as many ups and downs and can be just as sickening!

Tough times at the moment but I saw a great management skill last Friday when one of our directors took the time of calling a meeting of everyone in our building (~ 130 people) to reassure them of the company’s viability and safety.
Clearly, people are worried about their jobs at the moment.
In the news today here is Australia I see that Ford will cut around 500 jobs in Victoria. That’s near enough to 500 families that now have a different future to the one they had last week, or even yesterday.
Therefore our Director’s actions to reassure people was a good move.
He knows how the company is travelling and a lesser director would have just been comforted by that. But the recognition that there are staff who may be worried caused him to take the step of communicating and sharing what he knew about the company’s safety.
Knowledge is power and good managers today can use tht knowledge to increase the satisfaction and comfort of their staff.
Distracted staff are less productive. Distracted staff may look for ways to improve their position.
Good managers will recognise this and take action.
How are your staff through all this? What can you tell them that will improve their position within the company? What steps will you take to reassure staff they are okay (if they are)? And what steps will you take if there is some doubt?
